Typical thriller shots


 









The convention is camera shot types. There is a close-up, which is shown in this clip, of the main character, who is also the protagonist at 00:37. This would give an idea of how powerful the protagonist is. Also, the audience would get the idea that he is smart and that he will be able to win over the antagonist at some point in the film.











The convention is camera shot type. Shown in this clip is a wide shot of the house at 00:17. This presents where the film will mostly take place. Also, this would presents the type of way the family lives. This would give the audience the idea that the family is portrayed as a. middle class family.

Thriller editing sequence

The convention is for editing. The pace is shown to be increasing during an altercation in the car at 1:22. This increases the tension and gives the idea that something big will occur.

This is for transitions. Lots of cuts are used in the scene, which is mainly shown at 2:39. This would be to increase the intensity of the narrative.

Mise en scene



This would be for lighting. This scene is during the night. This would implicate that something tense will happen, considering the fact that most bad things happen in the night as there is rarely anyone there.

  The convention is performance. This is through the protagonist's serious facial expression at 00:03. This conveys that he is aiming to achieve something.

Thriller sounds

The convention is music. There is a high pitch orchestral music used in the scene. This would build up tension for the audience.


The convention is a sound effect. There is a use of non-digetic sound used. This is presented in the scene as it uses a sound of an explosion, along with gunshots at 00:56. This would present more realism to the plot.
