Thriller conventions

Has a clear antagonist - always a person who appears normal on the outside, but is deeply flawed on the inside. Quite often a murderer

Aims to keep the audience in suspense - on the edge of their seat with thrills. Can be creepy and disturbing. 

Often set in a normal, urban location. Adds to the feeling of suspense for the audience

Violent content is frequent

The enigma has a rational rather than supernatural or extra terrestrial explanation

There is often a link between the protagonist and antagonist which the viewers find out.

Stories almost always focus on serious crime or espionage

Master of Thriller - Alfred Hitchcock 

Made for films that can be regarded as thrillers 

Most of his films were made in Hollywood.

Hitchcock believed that a way for a thriller to be good is to find a single problem, which is to hold the attention of the audience while the story unfold.

Definition: Thriller is a genre in which has elements of other genres.
